Professional Goal
In any profession, but especially one that affects the lives of so many, it is important to set goals for yourself. Setting professional goals can help us to focus our energy to what is really important, which is our students. My Professional Goal for the 2016-17 year is as follows:
Offer increased opportunities for student choice within the framework of the curriculum standards, allowing students to invest themselves in quality work which they see as relevant and meaningful to their lives.
Providing student choice not only allows for differentiation according to student interest, prior knowledge, skills and ability levels, it allows students to collaborate socially, and pursue learning that gives them a sense of ownership and purpose. From fully self-directed projects to learning events that give small yet still meaningful choices, I will seek to find new ways to incorporate student choice into all facets of the classroom experience.
